So you may have noticed that there have been a few dodgy looking moustaches and goatees knocking about at the moment, but there is a reason for it!
"Movember" is when the Mo (slang for moustache) comes together with November each year to create a charity moustache growing event that raises funds and awareness for men’s health. It challenges men to change their appearance and grow a moustache throughout the month of November which then, in its own furry way, becomes the ribbon for Prostate Cancer. They simply start the month of Movember with a clean shave, and commit to growing a moustache for the next 30 days.
So now you know the mystery behind the masses of moustaches, let's hear who's been getting involved? The "Lymm Shepherd" are a Hill Walking group of Lymm locals (best known for their successful Three Peaks Challenge for charity event last year which raised over £5000 for Spina Bifeda). They have binned their razors in favour of Movember resulting in a rather hairy looking group of gents! One of the group, Richard Napier-Hemy, was recently affected when his father in law was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, so the charity is obviously very close to his heart. However, with Movember drawing to a close its time to slap on some foam and de-fuzz those faces, allowing the lads to be recognised again!
Due to be held at The Venue on Tuesday 30th November, "The Big Shave Off" will be performed by Jackie of local barber Sweeney Todd. Not only will we be saying farewell to the men's moustaches but one of the group who already has a beard will be shaving his head too, all in support of charity. So get down to The Venue for 7pm and come join in for a noble cause!
Donations can be made directly to Movember Charity, quoting "Lymm Shepherds", and donations can also be given at The Venue. The evenings events are also taking place prior to The Venue's Open Mic Night which will be renamed “MOPEN MIC NIGHT” in support of the theme.
