Lymm has excellent sports facilities, including a wide range of popular spectator sports, such as rugby and cricket. Other facilities include golf courses, tennis courts, badminton courts, swimming pools, fitness centres and popular gymnasiums.
Some major sporting events occur in surrounding regions such as the Grand National horse race which is the world's most-watched sporting event, with an annual audience of 600 million. The Northwest is a hotbed of footballing success, with seven Premiership clubs. Manchester United and Liverpool Football Club are known throughout the world.
Lymm RFC has both rugby union and rugby league. The club is community orientated, whose members work and play for the love and enjoyment of the game. There is a thriving and enthusiastic Mini Junior section which provides an introduction to rugby for boys and girls from age 6 and upwards. A revitalised Colts section (under 17`s & 19`s) provides the link between Junior and School rugby to Senior Rugby. From here it's all up to you, David Strettle, who has played at international level is an ex Lymm player.
In addition to rugby, there are two squash courts at Lymm Squash Club with ladies and men's teams taking part in local leagues. The Hockey Club uses the club facilities also.
Warrington Wolves also nick named the Wire are a local professional team. The state of the art stadium and facilities are amongst the best in the North West offering a fantastic match day experience. In 2009 they lifted the Challenge Cup for the first time since 1974 as they overcame Huddersfield 25-16 in the final of the underdogs at Wembley. The town is also home to Warrington Wizards who also play their home matches at Wilderspool Stadium. Furthermore Warrington has two predominant Rugby Union teams Warrington RUFC and Eagle RUFC who are based at Thornton Road.
Lymm Tennis Club overlooking the village centre has 13 courts, and an exceptional clubhouse where many social events occur. Whether you're a beginner, a social player or looking to enter competitions all are welcome.
Lymm Manor Tennis Club is a small club consisting of two shale courts and a club house. This includes an area to sit, relax, chat and watch tennis. The club has big ambitions. The members of Manor Road pride themselves on being very friendly and welcoming to new members of all ages.
Lymm Golf Club is one of the leading clubs in Cheshire. It boasts a course which will provide a challenge to golfers of all abilities and a club house that offers a warm welcome. The 2005 English Seniors Amateur Open was played at Lymm.
High Legh Country Club has an 18 holes golf course including 3 putting greens and a 300 yard driving range. It is considered one of the finest golf courses in the North West.
Lymm Rovers has established an outstanding reputation as one of the premier community clubs in the area. At present some 300+ young players make up 25 teams and this is growing year on year. The club has also got close links with the premiership club, Manchester City. Many of the coaches have worked with players and sometimes offer tickets to local matches.
There are dozens of premium well equipped and specialist heath clubs in the area. Have a strenuous session in a local gym, attend a circuit class with a personal trainer, alternatively lie back and relax in the steam room or sauna, or drift away in the sensual aromatherapy in a luxury spa. Most gyms and sports centres in the area are open daily, from early in the morning until late at night.
