Lymm Heritage Trail

Explore the wonders that Lymm has to offer

Lymm Heritage Trail which is 3.5 miles long is a self-guided trail exploring the built and natural heritage of the village. The route is based on the north/south valley which runs through the village centre (comprising Lymm Dam, the Dingle and Slitten Gorge) and two east/west routes – the Bridgewater Canal and the Trans Pennine Trail. The route is way marked and route maps can be found on each of the eleven information boards along the trail. See a map of the Heritage trail.

The project consists of local groups including the Parish Council, the Local History Group, the Keep Lymm Tidy Group, and the Lakeside Road Residents Association. The group is developing a trail, leaflets, and interpretation material.

Local Heritage Initiative

Initially the heritage trail was setup by the Local Heritage Initiative (LHI) which was a small grants programme (£3,000 to £25,000) launched in 2000 to help communities bring their local heritage to life. LHI provided funds, advice and support to enable communities to investigate, explain and care for their local landmarks, landscape, traditions and culture.
