Johnny Briggs

Known for his 20 years on the British television soap opera Coronation Street as Mike Baldwin

Winner of a lifetime achievement award and a MBE

Back in London he won a scholarship, at age 12 to Italia Conti Academy stage school. A variety of parts followed in movies, stage plays and TV shows. Briggs had roles in Crossroads and No Hiding Place to name a few.

He received a lifetime achievement award at the 2006 British Soap Awards for his thirty years of contribution to the soap Coronation Street.

His most recent theatre appearance was at the Manchester Opera House 2007 pantomime in which he played the father of Cinderella alongside former co-star Tina O'Brien.

Awarded an MBE in the New Year's Honours in December 2006 for his service to entertainment.

Briggs has made appearances in both Miss Marple and Holby City in 2007, as well on the soap opera Echo Beach.

American audiences are more likely to remember him as the young sailor who was stripped to the waist and flogged in 1962's H.M.S. Defiant (1962)
