Lymm Methodist Church

Members of Lymm Methodist Church can be dated back to 1802 where they use to hold "Cottage Meetings". However it was not until January of 1850 that the Chapel was opened. The existing Church building was constructed in 1898 close to the site of the earlier Church which was then joined by the New Road congregation in 1969.

The school room

Sunday School was introduced at the Church in November 1824 with a school room later being built in 1868. The school room was then moved into the old church in 1898. It remained there until 1975 when a new school room was constructed.

Different types of worship

Circuit services.

Within the Warrington Circuit each Quarter a joint service is held at which members from the the Methodist family can share in worship. Often specific themes are followed.

Traditional worship.

Caters for those who wish to develop their faith through prayer and meditation. It also incorporates Holy Communion.

Tea Time Service

This is a new style service that takes place at 4.30pm on specific dates. Apart from the regular congregation this service is held for the benefit of those who find difficulty in attending our normal services because they need transport or find access to the church difficult.The service is traditional in style and lasts about 30 minutes. It is then followed by tea – sandwiches, cakes, crisps, drinks etc

House Fellowships - Mondays and Thursdays.

Two house groups meet often working on a common theme such as "Time to Talk of God", "If you want to walk on water, you have to get out of the boat" and "Amazing Grace".

Wednesday Afternoon Group (WAGs)

A social event with the people of Churches Together Lymm and District (CTLD) where lunch is provided for elderly people who are housebound.

Weekly Devotions.

Recognising that in todays busy life style, weekly Church attendance is not always possible. Therefore weekly devotions for people to study at home are prepared and posted in the weekly notices.

10:15am - Sunday Morning Service.

The children stay for the first part of the service then they go to their various groups within the Sunday Club. Everyone id invited to stay for coffee and biscuits after the service.

The Sunday Club consists of Crèche for children aged 0 to 3 years, Beginners Department for 3 to 5 years, Primary Department for 5 to 7 years, Juniors for 7 to 11 years, and Talking With Interests Together on Sundays (TWITS) for 11 to 16 years.

One Sunday each month - All Age Worship, where children stay for the whole duration and contribute to the service.

Communion takes place at least three times a month at either 9am, during the 10:15am service or during an evening 6:30pm service.

Social Events

Throughout the year the Church holds various social events with the aim of uniting the church family. Typically these include the Gala Dinner at the Lymm Hotel, Barn dance, Church family party, Beetle Drives, Family fun days, and 'Who wants to be a chocolataire?'

JMA - Junior Missionary Association.

The members of the Sunday Club collect contributions from the Church family and their own extended social groups, which are then used by the Methodist Church for Missionary and Outreach projects. JMA is a valuable activity for young people, as it gives them an insight into recognising the needs of other people at an early age.

Fairtrade.

Once a month the TWITS (the young people's group) organises a Fairtrade stall after the Sunday morning service. They also present the products at the various social and fundraising events. The Fairtrade event helps to stimulate a greater awareness amongst the general public of the need to rebalance some of the inequalities associated with the globalisation of trade.

Market Lunches.

These are held once a month to coincide with the Lymm Thursday Market. The money raised is split 80% to Opening Doors (a Warrington homeless charity) and the balance to Church funds. Provides a place for people to meet in a friendly environment, exchange conversation and meet with Sally, the Minister, and other members of the Church family. A highlight of each month, appealing especially to the men, is the cake stall, again used to raise funds for this charity.

Kings Cross Project, Widnes.

A highlight of the Christmas celebrations is the Toy service. Members of the congregation and S Club bring gifts of toys which are used by this charity to provide Christmas gifts for children in families with limited income.

Annual Collections.

Members of the CTLD and the Church family participate in door-to-door collections for Christian Aid and the National Childrens Home (NCH). At Easter a collection is made for the Methodist Homes Association (MHA) which has a network of care homes for elderly people.

Pastoral Care

Group NameA network of Pastoral visitors provides both practical and emotional support to all members of the Church family. They also provide feedback to the Minister when spritual support is required. The Pastoral visitor will, visit when asked, listen, pray for those on their list, offer friendship, distribute membership tickets and Contact magazine, and represent the Minister and the Church community.
