Lymm woman raises money to pay for 2,000 breakfasts

Catherine Birkett, aged 44, of Barsbank Lane, joined her co-workers for the Whitley 10k to raise vital funds for the charity Magic Breakfast, which provides breakfast to youngsters who would otherwise go without.

Rebecca Chapman, aged 12, is this year's May Queen while seven-year-old Elizabeth Nelson takes the Rose Queen crown.

New library opens its doors at Lymm primary school

A new library has been opened in the entrance at Ravenbank Primary School, on Pepper Street.

The new facilities, unveiled during a ceremony and day of celebrations last week, have been funded by the school’s parents and teachers association through a range of events since September.

And members of the PTA joined year six children in school for the official opening.

Lymm woman gives up law to sell pet food

And after learning just how poor standard dog food is for nutrition, Amy decided to set up her own healthy pet food business.

The 32-year-old, of Rosebank in Lymm, quit her job as a lawyer working in personal injury claims and set up Tilly’s Choice, named after her miniature Yorkie.

She said: “We had to take Tilly to the emergency vet as she wasn’t able to go to the loo. She’s always been fussy, so we gave her cat food and meals we ate ourselves.

Ready to run in High Legh

The 2015 High Legh Robert Moffat Memorial 10k takes place on March 1 and with two weeks to go more than 100 runners have been taking part in training events to run the route.

To help with race preparation Lymm Runners has once again held its free From zero to 10k training course starting in the run-up to the race. Many of those racing have also taken part in two ‘Run The Route’ events held on Sunday, February 8 and Sunday, February 15.

Music star blows away the competition

Elliot Gresty, from Lymm, won through in the Lions Club contest in Lancaster.

The 19-year-old has played his featured instrument, the clarinet, for 11 years and hopes to build a career as a professional musician.

A former pupil at Manchester’s Chethams School of Music, he was backed in the contest by Birchwood Lions. He also studied piano for a short period before specialising in the clarinet.

The youngsters at Oughtrington Primary School, on Howard Avenue, enjoyed an ‘aspirational day’ on Friday.

Other dream careers included scientists, explorers and a lot of footballers, while Sasha Lane, pictured above, dreams of becoming the Prime Minister.

A number of parents also came into school to talk to the youngsters about their own profession.

Lymm resident ready for Morocco challenge for CAFT

Carol Robinson is a long-time supporter of the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust, based just outside Lymm in Millington.

And she is joining a group raising money for the charity by taking on a climb up Mount Toubkal in Morocco, all 4,167m of it.

In March she is organising a jumble sale at the village hall on Pepper Street as part of her fundraising effort for the trip.

It takes place between 2pm and 4pm on March 21 with free entrance.
