Title Out On A Lymm (2)
Description The Bridgewater Canal at Lymm. The canal, which took 35 years to build, connects Manchester, Runcorn and Leigh. It was commissioned by Francis Egerton, the third Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal from his pits in Worsley. It opened in stages from 1761, and links up with the Manchester Ship Canal, the Trent and Mersey Canal, the Rochdale Canal and the Leeds-Liverpool Canal. A connection with the River Mersey has been severed.
