The School was built in 1961 to a traditional design with closed classrooms. Thelwall Community Junior School is built in the heart of Thelwall with close links to the community and Church. The hall is used for assemblies, lunches, P.E. and drama lessons, school performances, and holds All Saints Church of England Sunday School on a Sunday Morning. Special Needs

The school has the facilities to cater for children with special educational needs, medical conditions, behavioural or social considerations. The class teachers are sensitive to these needs and by working closely with our school’s Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) provide Individual Educational Programmes (IEP) and Individual Behavioural Plans (IBP) when necessary.

Special Needs Code of Practice

The school follows the legislation set out in the Special Needs Code of Practice (2002) and Disability Discrimination Act (2005) and, where appropriate, works closely with LA’s Inclusion Service, including the Edcational Psychologist, Learning Support Teacher, Behavioural Support Team, Speech and Language therapist, Occupational therapist, School Health Adviser and Educational Welfare Officer (EWO). Parents of SEN pupils are kept fully informed of their child’s progress and are welcome to contact school to discuss any concerns as they may arise or to view the school’s SEN Policy and Disability Access Plan.

The Ferry Club

A local Link Club operates before and after school - child care provision and children from this school who attend this club are delivered to and picked up from the school entrance hall.

Residential Trips

The majority of residential and day trips only take place with the aid of voluntary contributions from parents.

Residential trip for Year 5 pupils to Robinwood Activity Centre, Cumbria.

Cheshire Fire Service and Cheshire Constabulary regularly visit the school to give the children safety talks.

Recurring Events

Yr 3 and Yr 4 children will receive 20 weeks swimming tuition each year with a qualified instructor provided by Warrington Swim Scheme.

Pupils receive rugby skills coaching from Warrington Wolves Rugby League Club and Rugby Union coaches and athletics/multi-skills from sports coaches.

Inter-school competitions for netball, cross country, athletics, football and rugby.

School Sports Day where all the parents are invited.

Thelwall Junior School were re-awarded the Activemark in 2008 for the school’s reputation for good sports provision for all pupils.
