Chaigeley School originates from 1946 when it was set up by the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) to care for, and educate, children traumatised by the bombings of the second world war. The school is now located in seventeen or so acres of land and caters for boys with emotional, social and behavioural problems. Bearing in mind the relatively small numbers, students are still able to enjoy extensive playing fields, a tennis court, sports hall, modern recently built classrooms and residential living facilities.
Chaigeley School is designated as a non-maintained school and as such is a special school which runs independently of any local authority. The school is a not for profit organisation and is run as a charity. A wide variety of local authorities purchase places for boys whose needs cannot be met in their home location.
Specialism’s
Quakers believe that there is something of God in everybody and that each human being is of unique worth. While Chaigeley does not operate as a faith school it’s ethos is based on the beliefs and values established by the Quakers back in 1946. All students are treated as individuals and we work to recognise the good that can be brought out of everyone. Chaigeley provides an environment in which students are encouraged to develop personal responsibility and resilience, students are given the opportunity to make choices and to learn from their mistakes.
