Bridgewater High

Broomsfield Drive, Appleton, Warrington, Cheshire

Bridgewater High School is a comprehensive school catering for pupils aged 11 to 18 years. The school is split into two separate sites, these being a Lower School for years 7 to 9 and an Upper School for years 10 and onwards. This allows the Lower School to still enjoy all the facilities and opportunities of a larger school but ensures they stay in a smaller and caring environment.

The Specialist Schools Initiative

In September 1998 Bridgewater High School was designated as an Arts College under the DCSF’s Specialist Schools Initiative. And then in 2005 the school gained High Performing Specialist School status including second specialism Science including Mathematics. Both the school and local community benefit from this as they are subjected to additional government funding to promote and develop opportunities in Art, Science and Mathematics.

Additional Information

Pastoral System

The Pastoral System at Bridgewater High School was developed as a means of providing pupils with a safe and secure environment where they can expand academically and socially. Pupils are split into Tutor Groups which consist of around 30 pupils which provides each pupil with a Tutor who they can communicate with on an individual basis regarding the usual day to day concerns. Each year group is then divided into Stockton and Appleton House, with each House having its own Pastoral and Achievement Leader (PAL) who is responsible in overseeing each pupil's welfare in the school and is the first point of contact for parents.

Key Stages

Key Stage 3 and 4 are provided with a Pastoral and Achievement Manager (PAM) who monitors the academic progress of pupils across the curriculum. And finally, pupils in years 12 and 13 are provided with their own Personal Tutor who they engage in regular one-to-one meetings with to monitor their progress and deal with any concerns.

Arts College

Since Bridgewater High School is primarily an Arts College the school ensures there are many opportunities for performances and events. Some of which include the School Play, Christmas and Summer Celebrations, an X-factor Competition, Concerts, Dance and Drama Festivals and a Choreography Competition. The school also holds a variety of Master Classes for the extra talented artists and performers. Furthermore the pupils of Bridgewater High School are provided with a chance to gain further qualifications via Trinity College with graded Speech and Drama, and Associated Board Music exams to help broaden their knowledge and experience.
